Environmental Audits
Environmental degradation remains a significant challenge globally, and Kenya is no exception. To mitigate these effects, regulatory frameworks such as the Environmental Management and Coordination Act (EMCA), 1999, mandate environmental audits (EAs) to ensure compliance with environmental standards and promote sustainable development.
Environmental Audits are conducted to check compliance to environmental regulations and industrial best practices with an aim of promoting sustainability. Unlike Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), which are conducted before project implementation, environmental audits are performed on existing operations to ensure continuous environmental performance improvement. When auditing a facility, the main areas of concern would vary depending on the nature of the activities being carried out. However, the main areas of concern would be;
- Solid Waste Management
- Effluent Discharge disposal methods
- Air Quality Concerns
- Energy use
- Water sources and consumption
- Safety Concerns to the Employees
In these issues we will evaluate the practices in place, compare this with what the law requires an investor to do and advise on how to achieve best practices. We offer assistance on implementation of best practices if required including trainings.
